Free! Eternal Summer Episode Review: 2×13 “The Eternal Summer of Beginnings!”

Free! has come to what is likely a permanent end. While last summer’s Iwatobi Swim Club left us with the promise of more, Eternal Summer’s end card seems distinctly final. While I would never object to more swimming shenanigans, I think Free! found a good place to stop.

This week’s Free! takes a small break from Haru’s crisis to focus on Rin and Sousuke. With two episodes left, Free! is starting to wrap up a few subplots and prepare for a dramatic and tense conclusion to the season.

Free! Eternal Summer Episode Review: 2×08 “The Locomotive of a Twist”

This week’s Free! steps back a bit from the dramatic turnings of the plot and does some light character introspection. While it doesn’t exactly shine a deeply profound light on its characters, it does provide a nice break from the steady build-up from the last few episodes.

Free! Eternal Summer is on the cusp of a dramatic turn. Things have been relatively carefree up to this point, at least concerning the graduation story line. But with so few tournaments left for the third years, stakes are heightened and friendships will be tested.

I’m back from San Diego Comic Con and I’m all caught up on Free! Eternal Summer. While there aren’t too many things going on in episodes four and five, there’s an immense amount of character development, including a spotlight episode for Nagisa. It’s great to see some of the less prominent characters get their day in the limelight.
