If you’re anything like me, you woke up to the news that J.K Rowling had released a new Harry Potter short story overnight and promptly flipped your lid.
In time for Harry’s 34th birthday (which is on July 31st), Rowling has written a short story about the adult lives of the Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny from the perspective of none other than trashy tabloid writer, Rita Skeeter. The story, written in the style of a gossip column, updates on the lives of our heroes while also taking subtle digs at the real life British tabloids that have plagued Rowling since her rise to fame.
As she regales her readers with the recent goings-on of Harry and his friends, Skeeter takes jabs at their appearance, marriages, and career choices. It’s a fun way to learn about what everyone has been doing since the, in my opinion, overly sentimental epilogue at the end of Deathly Hallows.
This is Rowling’s first Harry Potter story in seven years. While, according to spokesman Mark Hutchinson, she has no plans to release another Harry Potter novel, it doesn’t seem like she’s quite ready to retire Harry just yet.
You can find Rowling’s short story, as well a host of other extra tidbits, on Pottermore, or else you can read it here.

It was written so well that I could not bring myself to finish it. Not a fan of skeeter. Haha!

I totally feel you. I spent the whole story feeling indignant that Skeeter could publish such unfounded rumors about the gang. Had to remind myself that she’s not a real person 😛
