Today in Geek: July 29th, 2014

Comics, Conventions, Film, Miscellaneous, Video Games

  • 20th Century FOX released a new trailer for The Maze Runner today. I wasn’t wild about the book, but Dylan O’Brien is a pretty big draw for me, and the other casting choices are excellent as well. (via io9)
  • Diamond Comics Editor Vince Brusio published an article today that attributed increased comic convention attendance to women who got into geek culture “for the fashion sense”. It’s unclear what meaning we’re supposed to take from that statement, but it’s pretty offensive in any context. The article has since been taken down, but you can find a cache version here. If you’re not too busy flipping through your issues of Captain Marvel for hair and make-up tips, that is. (via The Mary Sue)
  • Little Big Planet 3 is officially being released on November 18th for the Playstation 3 and Playstation 4. You can peruse your super-cute pre-order bonus options here. (via Kotaku)
  • A new Mockingjay Part 1 teaser debuted at San Diego Comic Con recently, and now it’s been put online. The teaser shows Katniss promising to fight alongside District 13 as well as some of the repercussions of the rebellion. (via MTV)
  • Finally, One Night Live did a live reading of The Last of Us, with Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson reprising their roles as Joel and Ellie respectively. I’ll admit, it’s is a pretty bizarre choice for a theatrical performance (complete with musical number), but there it is. Enjoy. (via Kotaku)
